Terbinafine Hcl(Cas 78628-80-5) Usage

Category Antifungal Drug, Allylamine Class
Definition Terbinafine Hydrochloride (TBF-HCl) is a synthetic allylamine antifungal agent used primarily to treat superficial fungal infections of the skin and nails, particularly onychomycosis, a fungal infection of the nail plate. It inhibits fungal growth by targeting the enzyme squalene epoxidase, disrupting the fungal cell membrane.
Mechanism of Action Terbinafine inhibits squalene epoxidase, an essential enzyme in the fungal cell membrane ergosterol biosynthesis pathway. This leads to the toxic accumulation of squalene within the cell and results in fungal cell death.
Safety Profile Generally well-tolerated, though systemic use may cause adverse effects such as liver toxicity, gastrointestinal issues, or allergic reactions.

Uses

Huarong Pharm adheres to our vision, our mission, and our value, keeping abreast of the current trend and state-of-the-art science and technologies of the global biopharmaceutical industry to serve our clients to the utmost satisfaction. Our existing advantages have led to our in-depth services for the R&D of small molecule drug discovery. Terbinafine HCl is most commonly used to treat onychomycosis, a fungal infection that affects the nail plate, causing discoloration, thickening, and brittle nails. It is effective against fungal species such as Trichophyton, Microsporum, and Epidermophyton, which cause conditions like athlete’s foot, jock itch, and ringworm.

Brand name

Lamisil

Formulation and Efficacy: Terbinafine HCl’s lipophilic nature and high affinity for keratin-rich tissues make it particularly effective in penetrating the skin and nails, allowing for targeted treatment of fungal infections. However, oral formulations are generally preferred for treating nail infections due to the difficulty of drug penetration through the nail plate.

Nail characterization studies were also performed to examine the effect of formulations and experimental conditions on nail surface. As a result, all formulations can serve as efficient formulations for ungual application of TBF-HCl. By the way, the results of the accumulation studies suggested that liposome poloxamer gel formulation could be promising system for ungual drug delivery due to the better accumulation and easier application of the formulation.

Controlled release of terbinafine hydrochloride from pH sensitive poly(acrylamide/maleic acid) hydrogels

Murat Şen, Cengiz Uzun, Olgun Güven

International Journal of Pharmaceutics Volume 203, Issues 1–2, 1 August 2000, Pages 149-157

Adsorption and controlled release of terbinafine hydrochloride (TER-HCl) to and from pH sensitive poly(acrylamide/maleic acid) (P(AAm/MA)) hydrogels were investigated. P(AAm/MA) hydrogels were prepared by irradiating the ternary mixtures of AAm/MA/and water by γ-rays at ambient temperature.
