Neomycin sulfate(Cas 1405-10-3) Usage
Description |
eomycin is a mixture of related compounds, including neomycin B and C. It has a high affinity for bacterial ribosomal RNA, disrupting bacterial protein synthesis. Neomycin Sulfate falls under the category of aminoglycoside antibiotics, which are used to treat bacterial infections. Available as topical creams, ointments, solutions, and oral preparations. It is commonly combined with other antimicrobials in topical formulations for enhanced efficacy. Hangzhou Huarong Pharm Co., Ltd. established since 2009 , has been always focusing on supplying products and services to our clients in the field of small molecule drug. To maintain a high innovation efficiency, the company has continuously increased the investment on R&D facilities and state-of-the-art equipment in the past several years, including the establishment of kilogram GMP conditions plants and R&D centers. |
Uses | Neomycin Sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic used primarily for its ability to inhibit bacterial protein synthesis. It is effective against a wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Neomycin Sulfate is commonly used in topical formulations to prevent infections in wounds, burns, and minor cuts. It is also used orally to reduce intestinal bacteria before bowel surgery and to manage hepatic encephalopathy by reducing ammonia-producing gut bacteria. Neomycin is administered orally before bowel surgery to reduce the risk of infection by decreasing the gut flora. In some formulations, it is combined with other agents like Curcuma longa to enhance wound healing effects. |
Safety and Warnings | Ototoxicity: Neomycin poses a risk of irreversible hearing loss, especially with prolonged use. Pregnancy: Neomycin may pose a risk to fetal development and should be avoided during pregnancy unless necessary. Gastrointestinal Side Effects: Oral use can lead to GI disturbances, such as nausea and vomiting. |

International Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Research 2009; 1(2): 116-118
Present investigation was to develop novel ointment formulation in combination of natural wound healing agent curcuma longa, which is reported to possess wound healing and anti-bacterial activities. Combination of neomycin sulphate and curcuma longa is good rational, where curcuma longa produces synergistic wound healing effect with neomycin sulphate. Formulations containing fixed concentration (0.5 %) of neomycin sulphate and 3 %, 4 % and 5 % of curcuma longa were prepared. To assess the efficacy of formulations anti-bacterial activity, rheology, stability, spreadability and other physical characteristics were evaluated. The results obtained were encouraging and formulation containing neomycin sulphate (0.5 %) with 5 % of curcuma longa was found better than other formulations.
Improved high-performance liquid chromatographic method for simultaneous determination of neamine, neomycin B and neomycin C in neomycin sulphate
Per Helboe, Sonja Kryger
Journal of Chromatography A Volume 235, Issue 1, 22 January 1982, Pages 215-220
A fast and reliable isocratic high-performance liquid chromatographic method suitable for simultaneous determination of the main component and impurities in neomycin sulphate is elaborated. Neomycin B and the related substances are separated as their 2,4-dinitrophenyl derivatives on a Zorbax SIL column using 1,2- dichloroethane-heptane-methanol-water-diethylamine (790:15:55:3.6:1.5) as the eluent. The method is compared to the commonly used microbiological method for quantitating neomycin.
