Amikacin disulfate salt(Cas 39831-55-5) Usage
Description |
Amikacin Sulfate is a semi-synthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from kanamycin. It is primarily used for treating serious Gram-negative bacterial infections that are resistant to other antibiotics, including those caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus, and Serratia. Amikacin binds irreversibly to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and leading to bacterial cell death. |
Originator |
Amikin,Bristol,US,1976 |
Uses |
Amikacin is effective against Gram-negative pathogens causing pneumonia and other respiratory infections. Especially used in complicated or resistant urinary infections caused by bacteria like E. coli and Proteus. Amikacin has been used in chitosan-nanoparticle dressings to promote wound healing by inhibiting bacterial growth at the wound site. Amikacin contains fewer enzymatic sites vulnerable to bacterial resistance mechanisms, making it effective against strains resistant to other aminoglycosides like gentamicin, tobramycin, and kanamycin. This makes amikacin a valuable option in treating multi-drug-resistant infections. Huarong Pharm adheres to our vision, our mission, and our value, keeping abreast of the current trend and state-of-the-art science and technologies of the global biopharmaceutical industry to serve our clients to the utmost satisfaction. Our existing advantages have led to our in-depth services for the R&D of small molecule drug discovery. |
FDA Approval and Brand Names | Approved by the FDA: 1976 Brand Name: Amikin® Other generic forms of amikacin sulfate are also available globally. |
Side Effects and Toxicity | Nephrotoxicity: Amikacin, like other aminoglycosides, can cause kidney damage (nephrotoxicity), particularly in patients with pre-existing renal disease. Monitoring kidney function during treatment is essential. Ototoxicity: There is a risk of irreversible hearing loss (ototoxicity), especially with prolonged use or high doses. Patients may experience tinnitus or hearing impairment, which is usually related to the cumulative dose. Neuromuscular Blockade: Amikacin may exacerbate pre-existing neuromuscular conditions, leading to muscle weakness or respiratory issues. Injection Site Reactions: Local irritation or inflammation may occur at the injection site. |

Approaches to improve the association of amikacin sulphate to poly(alkylcyanoacrylate) nanoparticles
María J. Alonso , Cándida Losa , Pilar Calvo , JoséL. Vila-Jato
International Journal of Pharmaceutics Volume 68, Issues 1–3 , 1 February 1991, Pages 69-76
Owing to the low rate of association of polar drugs, such as amikacin sulphate, to hydrophobic carriers, e.g. poly(alkylcyanoacrylate) nanoparticles, several procedures have been investigated to improve the drug carrier capacity. The greatest improvement was noted with the covalent reaction between the drug and the suspension agent dextran 70, attached to the particle surface.
Electrochemical detection of amikacin sulphate using reduced graphene oxide and silver nanoparticles nanocomposite
Neha Sharma, Sathish Panneer Selvam, Kyusik Yun Ph.D.
Applied Surface Science Volume 512, 15 May 2020, 145742
This work reports the use of NiF-AgNPs/rGO for the detection of amikacin sulphate. The application of AgNPs from RC with a reduced rGO nanocomposite on NiF achieved better electrochemical detection of antibiotic.
