Azilsartan kaMedoxoMil(Cas 863031-24-7) Usage
Description |
Azilsartan medoxomil potassium is a prodrug and an angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARB) used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults. Upon administration, it is metabolized to its active form, azilsartan, which blocks the angiotensin II receptor, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. The drug is marketed under the brand name Edarbi. Azilsartan medoxomil potassium is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents like methanol, dimethyl sulfoxide, and N,N-dimethylformamide. Studies have identified two degradation products (DP-1 and DP-2) that can form during the micronization process, with DP-2 being a previously unknown impurity. Hangzhou Huarong Pharm Co., Ltd. established since 2009 , has been always focusing on supplying products and services to our clients in the field of small molecule drug. The company has continuously increased the investment on R&D facilities and state-of-the-art equipment in the past several years, including the establishment of kilogram GMP conditions plants and R&D centers. |
Uses |
Azilsartan blocks the angiotensin II receptor (AT1), inhibiting the vasoconstrictive effects of angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels and increases blood pressure. By blocking this receptor, azilsartan promotes vasodilation, which helps lower blood pressure. Azilsartan medoxomil potassium is used to treat hypertension in adults, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs. By lowering blood pressure, it helps reduce the risk of stroke, heart attacks, and kidney damage. |
Clinical Use |
Azilsartan medoxomil potassium has demonstrated superior antihypertensive effects compared to other ARBs, showing a favorable safety profile in clinical trials. It is noted for having minimal impact on serum potassium and sodium levels, a key concern in many antihypertensive therapies. |

This salt is practically insoluble in water and is freely soluble in methanol. Each white, round, unscored tablet of azilsartan medoxomil contains 42.68 mg or 85.36 mg of the potassium salt, which is equivalent to 40 mg and 80 mg of azilsartan medoxomil, respectively.

Azilsartan medoxomil potassium (AZM) is a new antihypertensive drug introduced in the year 2011. The presence of degradation products not only affects the quality, but also the safety aspects of the drug. Thus, it is essential to develop an efficient analytical method which could be useful to selectively separate and identify the degradation products of azilsartan medoxomil potassium.
